Vodafone just a world wide telecom company,
just like 3, so nothing special.
not really that good when I use in UK.
High price monthly plan.
Now SV is nearly follow that rule!
Vodafone is not just a worldwide teleco, it's a brand, a very successful brand. It's like LV, you are not only buying a purse, you are buying an LV-branded purse, in which the purse itself isn't necessarily any better than one of those we get at Women's St. It's the brand that you are getting.
Re high monthly plan - I think the case is tariff in HK is significantly lower than most of the countries so comparatively speaking all telecos in HK offer better deals. Even 3-UK isn't cheap.
How success is Vodafone?
in UK, they have phones4U and carphone such dealer to sell tariff.
which they buy airtime from Vodafone. But I don't think it works in HK.
Normally, they use cheap handset and long contract to make people use their service. which is Voda-Smc doing now.
In HK, I don't think ppl will use over $200/month and just got 500 mins/month for a special "Voda" version handset.
anyway, just my point of view. but I don't think it can compare with LV. Because which Vodafone is a supplier of mobile service.
not a product!!!
I use Vodafone for 5 years in UK but I think the service is not as good as people in HK think.
Sim-lock, cheap cheap "red-white-blue" interface.
People think it is very good because it provide service in JP, and let us have Japanese handset to use. Other than this, I can't see any other advantage.
how can you compare the service which in Hong Kong and UK ?
The network facility in Hong Kong is even 2 times better than UK but the area smaller than UK like 10 timesss..
As far as i know,in UK, Vodafone's network is most stable one compare to 3 and Orange blah blah blah ...there are only one could as good as well is O2. And in the the after sales service part, Vodafone is always at the leading position against to other network operator. I am both UK 3 and Vodafone customer, i can easily see that are huge different gap over there.
And since Vodafone in 2003 was the replacement of Sir Christopher by a new American CEO Arun Sarin , the whole Vodafone's stratagic was changed, now they trying to make it as a well know brand and not just simple Largest mobile phone operator on the world and trying to beat NOKIA, ok thats not what i said ,it's what he said. And LV branded purse obviously is example to let you know and no one ask you to compare with LV and Vodafone.
You cant think every company going with same style and doing everything cheap or what.Thats a business ,every company got their own objective. You have to face it , UK 3 the monthly rental is cheap but service is sucks. Vodafone's price higher but service is good.
And people in Europe, they dont mind the fu*king interface "red white blue",they just want their handset easy to use and small.
Thats a different for mobile phone culture between Asian and Western. For most of people in Hong Kong would care about the interface color, virson , region, blah blah blah a loads of shittt...But in Europe, people just think the outlooking small stylish THAT IS !
People said feel unhappy with local company taken over by overseas company, Im not in Hong Kong, i dont know the fact, but i saw a loads of complain here about SV.
my 2 cent.
Actually, I don’t mine any company take over by any other foreigner.
Just think so many people think Vodafone is the best, a bit 神化.
Whatever what, Smartone, Smartone-Vodafone or Vodafone HK are still using the same network, same CS, same shop etc.
I don't think there will be a big difference!!!
Also, I used Smartone for 3 years, but b4 vodafone join in, the service is quite good. but i find the bill is getting worse, just say in charge me something I never use, GPRS fee for just login the smartone in, so finally, I change to 3 and csl.
those company for SV have their point, just many people never read their bill or they never concern what shows on their bill. I know people in HK are rich, but doesn't meant I need to pay for something I didn't use. for me, even $5 i also call the CS for refund.
Anyway, I also working in a worldwide company now. but what you said just their aim, I don't think if SV change to voda HK, that will be a big change.
May be Voda HK will have more restriction on handset, more expensive when call other network etc..... god knows!
