Have you got any common sense on camera operation?
CMOS is sort of technology simulating the traditional camera, taking the full frame of picture. The distortion would be less than CCD processing.
As the latter needs to breakdown --> colouring --> conposite
That's why new DSLR uses cmos rather than ccd.
Of course, the energy consumption is another concern as CMOS takes fewer energy.
In camera phone it's meaningless to compare CCD and CMOS. They are toys only.
Concerning the quality of camera, you need to think about:
1. size of lens
2. digital image processing unit
3. Accuracy of white balance.
For point 1, camera phone is too compact, the larger lens is not allowed to be instatlled. In this sense, the quality of image is destined to be worse as the lens does not allow sufficient amount of light to be absorbed. Remember light is something really determining the quality of a picture.
For point 2, I think camera phone has no significant better processing unit, as the noise reduction, colouring and processing speed are really terrible.
For point 3, white balance of camera phone is ALWAYS inaccurate and manual calibration is not allowed.
So, the image composition of CCD and CMOS lens in camera is merely the same (in terms of quality). The only difference between them is the energy consumption. If the letter saves more energy, why should I use the one which takes more engery but not performing better in image composition.
That's why mobile phone uses CMOS instead of CCD.
Don't believe in the silly promotion of manufacturer...believe your eyes.
This is the conclusion of my experience in using SE K800i and V903SH in these three years. Unless I haven't brought my LX2 camera, I seldom use the phone camera.
Or, I would say that, CCD on camera phone is sort of tricks to fool consumer.
