I was also fooled by Smartone for long time. They told me that I have a free roaming service but I could not use when I dailed 001/+ to call HK & China in Bangkok. The response from the Thailand Network is "the service is barred".
I called the CS of Smartone when I returned to HK & they said the free roaming service means I can only use the "Home return call" functiion *138*.......but cannot use the 001/+ function in overseas. The IDD roaming function requires a cash deposit of $1,000.
I cannot imagine there is still a Network requires $1,000 cash for the IDD roaming service, it is good enough to be deposited by credit card.
Also the "Home return call" function *138*... charge from the beginning of the connected ringtone, that means you are going to pay from the ringtone starts. You will charge the full waiting time for reply if nobody answer your call.
What a rip-off company thinking many crazy methods to take money from customer's pocket.
Be careful even Smartone says it is 27% lower than IDD when call back to HK, what about the rate to other countries & the waste of charge while waiting for answer ?
hi - i think u r talking about *131* phone home service// i use it very frequently when working at china and callling hkg. it DOES save lots of $ gar. it's $6 per minute (from beijing), compared to $11.5 or $10.8 if using 00852 or +852 direct dial. also, for calls that do not get answered, i have never been charged (many times i tried calling my mother who does not stay home all the time during day time).
business is business - i agree with most ppl here saying smartone-vodafone should observe the service contract spirit and shall not charge news monthly fee to those customers who sign up b4 dec 8.. (like CSL allows existing customers to keep paying the $10 MTR/Tunnel fee, only charging $12 to those signing new contracts after dec 1st.)
