Barcelona, Spain, February 14 2006: At the largest telecommunications and mobile event of the calendar, Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., (Samsung) showcases an extensive portfolio of mobile handsets and technology at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
During the event, Samsung demonstrates a range of innovative wireless industry firsts, from WiBro (Wireless Broadband, Korean brand name of Mobile WiMAX) and High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) at speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, to Samsung’s Mobile TV products. Samsung is also displaying a portfolio of ultra slim phones and 3G phones to meet consumer demand in the market.
HSDPA leadership
As the leading provider of mobile phones and telecom systems, Samsung is unveiling a new HSDPA handset, the Z560, planned for the European market. Samsung will also be demonstrating High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology at speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, which is the fastest in the industry. Web browsing, streaming and content downloads will be demonstrated at 3.6Mbps as a comparison to speeds of 1.8 Mbps and 384Kbps (WCDMA).
Mobile TV leadership
Samsung is showcasing a host of its other global breakthrough technologies and innovatively designed products, including its portfolio of mobiles of various Mobile TV standards: Terrestrial Digital Media Broadcasting (T-DMB), Satellite Digital Mulitmedia Broadcasting (S-DMB), and DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handhelds). Samsung reveals the SGH-P900, Europe’s first T-DMB phone, which will be ready in time for the 2006 World Cup. Samsung will also reveal various DMB phones with unique features and DVB-H phone based in 3G(SGH-P910).
WiBro leadership
Samsung also shows the world’s first WiBro(Mobile WiMAX) handset, the M8000, and is conducting demonstrations of WiBro(Mobile WiMAX) technology in its booth.
Ultra slim Design Leadership
Samsung is addressing the current “thin is in” trend in the mobile industry with a diverse line-up of new ultra slim phones with an average thickness that is less than a half-inch. Without compromising any premium multimedia capabilities, Samsung’s robust slim phone portfolio is part of an aggressive global strategy in the slim phone category, demonstrating how quickly and effectively Samsung can recognize and act on consumers’ demands. Samsung is unveiling the ultra-slim Smartphone with QWERTY keyboard, the i320, which operates on Windows Mobile 5.
The company’s newest slim 3G slim phones – Z510 and Z540 - are developed to give European consumers a true mobile multimedia experience with features such as broadband download capabilities, Bluetooth® wireless technology, mega-pixel cameras and camcorders in an innovative design. Also on display are slim GSM models, the D800 and D820, the “card phone” P300, the 3 mega-pixel camera-phone Z710, and its new line-up of new 3G phones: the Z520, Z330, Z350, Z310, and Z150
